lawn renovation
Has your lawn suffered from the extreme heat and drought over the past summer or simply deteriorated and thinned out over the harsh, wet winter? If so, starting again with a complete lawn renovation is a good option in bringing your lawn back to life!
A lawn renovation consists of the following processes, scarification, aeration and the introduction of new grass seed over the whole lawn. This is then layered in a nutrient rich topdressing.
Consider renovation of the whole lawn rather than small repairs when more than 25% of the lawn is suffering.
Some of the main reasons for renovation may be:
Heat & drought stress.
Excessive thatch layer.
You want to change or improve the type of grass to better suit its environment in which it grows in.
Your lawn no longer responds to fertiliser treatments.
The lawn is prone to diseases.
The lawn suffers from heavy weed grass infestation (Poa)
Soil Problems / Drainage problems.
Fertiliser Application
Professional grade, organic based, controlled release and non-scorch.
We fertilise your lawn professionally using the top of the range products. You'll soon be on your way to a healthy lawn that maintains a deep green colour and gives weeds a run for their money.
We combine our applications between Granular and Liquid form to display peak performance all year round. Nitrogen is every lawn's most important nutrient, and each type of grass demands different amounts to display peak growth and performance.
We tailor your treatments to the needs of your individual lawn.
Remember - A regular mowing schedule is essential to ensure the lawn benefits from lawn treatments.
Aeration
Aeration involves perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the grassroots. This helps the roots grow deeply and produce a stronger, more vigorous lawn. The main reason for aerating is to alleviate soil compaction and aid drainage. We offer fracture tine only and hollow tine upon request.
Scarification
Scarification is carried out to remove organic matter from around the base of the grass plants and tidy up any straggly lateral growth. In a nutshell, scarification removes material, probably in the form of thatch or moss that will otherwise prevent good dense grass growth.
Leatherjacket & Chafer grubs
Leatherjacket grubs & Chafer grubs are the larvae of crane flies ‘daddy long legs’ & Chafer beetles. Before they reach the adult stage they feed on grass roots ruining your otherwise well-kept grass.
You may notice your green lawn is showing patches of yellow in spring and that the grass pulls up easily with no roots attached. This is likely to be badly affected by leatherjacket or Chafer grubs. Another indication is lots of birds flocking to your lawn, particularly starlings, feeding all at once pecking at the grass.
If you notice these symptoms during the winter and into the spring, allow us to introduce naturally occurring nematodes into the rootzone of the soil, they will then hunt out soft-bodied grubs to feed on! (biological warfare)
Alongside nematodes, there is now a more reliable control available that is applied at peak flight in October/November for leatherjackets and June/July for Chafer grubs. This control can only be applied once per year.
PLEASE NOTE: It is important to re-apply in the Autumn. Further craneflies & chafer beetles will have mated in the summer and laid eggs in the lawn. An autumn application of both nematodes & Acelepryn will see to this generation of grubs kept at bay.
Moss control
Usually, moss in a lawn means there is some environmental characteristic that disadvantages the grass plants. This disadvantage will need to be addressed to stop the recurrence of the moss. Common reasons are usually easy to identify, ie compacted ground, shaded areas, the canopy of trees & shrubs, etc.
Our Iron sulphate is used to green and toughen up grass as well as suppress the growth of moss.
The high-quality iron formulation is particularly beneficial during colder spells of weather as it will help strengthen the plant against frost and disease. Iron is absorbed by the leaf giving rapid results and has been known to blacken moss within hours.
