What is a lawn reset and what does it involve?

Extreme heat and drought over the summer months can be extremely detrimental to the health of your lawn. Conversely, the cold and wet winter months can lead to a thinning out and general deterioration of your lawn. If your lawn has been impacted by being exposed to these harsh conditions, a lawn reset may be the best option for your lawn.

A lawn reset consists of scarification, aeration and the introduction of a more suitable grass seed variety for your lawns environment that covers the whole lawn. Once this has been carried out, the lawn is then covered with a nutrient rich topdressing.

Is my lawn in need of a reset?

You may consider resetting the whole lawn rather than carrying out small repairs when more than 25% of the lawn is suffering. You may also opt to improve or change the type of grass to better suit the environment in which it grows in. In addition to damage to your lawn caused by extreme weather conditions, there are other factors which contribute to lawn damage and which a lawn reset may be the best option to rectify:

  • Excessive layer of thatch.
  • The lawn is prone to diseases.
  • The lawn suffers from heavy weed and moss infestation.
  • Soil problems/drainage problems.

When is the best time to reset my lawn?

As resetting the lawn requires a fair amount of intensive work and can look slightly untidy, it is important to carry this out in the Spring or Autumn when the grass is actively growing and can therefore recover from this process.
